About the Club

Our Story

The Club was started in 2013 by the late Rusty Barrett, the late Andrew Beach and founding member Frances Beech, plus a few local backyard beekeepers with lots of enthusiasm and a few thousand bees.  Now we are a vibrant club educating and enthusing many more bee-minded folk - both non-commericial/hobbyist and commercial beekeepers.

Commerical beekeeping started in New Zealand in the 1850s and there has been more fascination in New Zealand with apiculture since 1953 when beekeeper Sir Edmund Hilary from Tuakau conquered Mt Everest.

Our monthly meetings are well attended by members from all walks of life. The programme features a guest or topical speaker, opportunity to get advice, support and encouragement or share experiences, and enjoy a cuppa and a biscuit.

The Club supports mentoring and apiary visits among newer and more experienced members to train and help with the practical side of beekeeping.

Club members can access some beekeeping supplies and services at discounted prices.

Anyone can join who is interested in bees but doesn't want to keep bees.  So come along, join up and enjoy the buzz.

Bee Aware

If the bee disappeared off the face of the world mankind would only have 4 years left to live.
